County Monaghan Community Games Gymnastic Finals April 2019

Our club was well represented from various areas at the Monaghan Community Games Gymnastics final held in the Phoenix Centre, Carrickmacross.  The club would like to thank all the clubs involved that supplied the equipment for this year’s event.  Unfortunately, the date was changed to over the Easter weekend so a number of gymnasts that had prepared/planned to participate this year event were unable to attend due to holidays that had been booked to suit the original date.  We would like to firstly congratulate all our club members who took part and enjoyed the day at the community games.  Their efforts and participation were fantastic and we as a team of coaches were extremely proud of each and every one of them.

The event ran extremely smoothly as there was judges from each club in the county involved, Border Bounce; Brendan Lillis, Carrickmacross Gymnastics; Emma Finnegan, Killeevan Gymnastics; Joanne Kelly and LA; Lisa Boyle.  The county executive members in attendance were Sandra McAree and Sandra McCooey who were also the scorekeepers for the event.

In the girls under 9 there was a huge number of gymnasts involved, with all the LA gymnasts well prepared to represent their areas, it was a very tight competition as there is only a floor routine involved at this age group. Lára Corrigan, Tydavnet parish came out with the gold this is her second year to come out on top and was our first medal of the day.

In the girls under 11, again there was huge numbers the biggest of the day, we again had a big number of LA gymnasts in this section.  This age group is the start of the Floor and Vault, bringing a bigger aspect to the competition.  The two elements are very hard and take time to prepare, with gymnasts usually having a preference of one over the other.  The Vault can be especially hard to master as it takes speed, timing and strength to master a good one, this can take up a major amount of training time.  In this section again we had a number of hopefuls but our gymnast Abeigh McMahon from Clontibret/Annyalla Parish came out with the gold medal.

In under 13’s, we had a number of our gymnasts participate but with stiff competition and a lot of extremely talented/experienced gymnasts from our own and other clubs involved it was extremely tight at the top with only .3 making the difference between first and third, we are very proud of what our gymnasts in this section accomplished.

Unfortunately, due to age/area restrictions we had no gymnasts involved in this age group.

We as a club would like to thank the organizers, the clubs who supplied equipment and the Phoenix Centre for a fantastic day out!

Well done to all and Best of luck at the all-Ireland’s!
